The intellectually inclined called it 'progressive', and it even had

TV programme - The Old Grey Whistle Test. Out of
'heavy' music was eventually to come heavy metal, but first came the
back-to-basics no nonsense 'pub

Punk
music came late to the BBC. It was reputed to have a pernicious
influence. But come it eventually did, along with the New Wave that
